Is there a law that the bank has to at least give the person something to live on?
My friend deposited his check week before last and the teller told him to subtract $60 for overdrawn fees. He did. Then when he went to deposit his check Friday they took his entire paycheck. And gave him a print out that showed he is now $282 overdrawn. Old National Bank's teller did not explain to him that not only was he to subtract the $60, but they took that entire check that week, too. He made a mistake and forgotten to subtract from the ATM.
He thought after subtracting the $60 like the teller said that his balance would be correct. Because of the teller's mistake of not telling him that he owed more, he has been charged a daily fee for overdrawing. He has nothing to live on because they took his entire check.
I feel the bank was totally wrong in doing this. Difference here, my bank is Fifth Third and contacts me the next day when I make a mistake.
How can I help my friend?
Thanks!
